To make up for that, the game differs from others with a wide variety of support and extraneous
skills on top of the class ones. For example, jumping is a skill, as is siphoning your own HP to heal another player.
If I had to categorize the game, I would say it fits
more with the experienced casual crowd; those who have experience with MMOs, but who may not have played a lot of recent games, or have the time/means to subscribe to a retail
title. Twelve Sky 2 does feature a grind, but compared to many free games it's really not that bad; until level 30, it's not even noticeable at all, and beyond
that you can get enormous XP bonuses by partying with other players.
It's the three-skill combat and the easy-to-understand PVP that make me believe this game would be
enjoyed more by a non-hardcore crowd, though. In PVP, it almost always boils down to using attack skills over and over, and then using pots to heal HP or Chi (mana) until one
of you falls down. In largescale PVP, it always depends on which side has the most players, as there are no instanced RvR type maps in this one.
For those who have years
of experience playing tactical PVP games where you'll have to go in with a plan, a build, and a counter to numerous situations, a battle of attrition which ultimately turns
into a battle of one-shotting at higher levels may not be your cup of tea.
However, players new to the MMORPG genre, or those who have passed on the last couple
years of releases, will feel right at home in Twelve Sky 2.
While the gameplay may be more reminiscent of older MMORPG titles, the graphics are obviously
from more modern times. Visually, Twelve Sky 2 is a big step up from the original Twelve Sky. Not only do models look better, but animations are
smoother, enemies look better (and are more numerous in types), and the armor and weapons look awesome. If you're like me, it's going to take you quite some time to decide
which class to play. (While part of that is because of the general lack of information about what each class can do, it's largely in part due to the fact that they all look
so awesome.)
So should you play Twelve Sky 2? That depends. If you liked the original, then the answer is an astounding yes. And, judging by the early
playerbase, a lot of people did like the original. At the same time, if you got bored of the original or never enjoyed it, it's better to pass on this go-round. For those who
have never tried Twelve Sky before, whether or not you'll enjoy this game will depend on two things: A) could you have fun playing a game with a very limited
number of attack skills, all unlocked from an early level, and B) do you enjoy games with a heavy emphasis on Asian-inspired and martial arts-inspired aesthetics?
Answer
yes to either of those, then give Twelve Sky 2 a try. Answer no to both? You'll probably be better off looking elsewhere for your next MMORPG.
