Fans of long-ranged weapons in New World might have a hard time choosing between the bow and the musket. Both look fantastic, both have some awesome ability and specialisation trees, and both can be incredibly satisfying to use. Considering that most of us don't have the time to master both, it's important to know which to choose to dedicate our time to.
So, is the musket or bow better in New World?
The Bow. The bow is faster than the musket, making it a better PvE weapon. It has plenty of excellent damage-dealing skills allowing you to hit harder and faster than you would be able to with the musket. That is not to say, however, that the musket is without its own advantages. It is a more powerful hitscan weapon making it arguably more effective in PvP modes under the skill of the right marksman. Its Powder Burn and Trap skills are also useful for dealing prolonged damage and holding players back, respectively.
Still, overall, it's an inferior weapon. Which is a shame, because the musket is one of New World's most original and unique weapons. Indeed, Creative Director David Verfaillie told us in a recent interview that the musket is New World's least popular weapon. However, with some improvements already being integrated and more to be added if-and-when needed, we're glad that the Amazon Games dev team is paying close attention.
These changes come at the same time as further improvements to combat such as weapon swapping which we hope will turn New World into an even better world.
