Feelgood Friday: All-Women Speedrunners Flame Fatales Raise Record Sum for Charity

The all-women speedrunning stream of the summer, Flame Fatales, wrapped up over the weekend with a slew of successful speedruns worth celebrating. So successful, in fact, that it managed to raise a record sum for charity.
Flame Fatales is the yin to Frost Fatales yang, an all-women speedrunning stream curated by Frame Fatales in close association with Games Done Quick. Both Frame Fatales events task women with completing games in the quickest possible times all for the entertainment of the viewer at home - and, of course, the benefit of the official chosen charity. Eligible participants include all women "regardless of if you are cis, trans, non-binary, or gender non-conforming."
This year's Flame Fatales, like its winter counterpart, was held in aid of the Malala Fund. The Malala Fund is a charity inspired by its namesake, Malala Yousafzai, that works to expand and empower the level of education revived by women and girls in all corners of the globe. And this year's Flame Fatales saw over $135,000 heading their way thanks to the donations of viewers and the astounding feats of its participants.
Such feats this year included a super rare speed run of Alf - a game where, according to speedrunner LadyStarbird "The hit boxes are made up and the points don't matter," - a Pokémon Legends: Arceus run completed in less than half the time of this year's Never Before Seen run, and a speedrun of Unpacking that we wish could be replicated in real life.
All in all, the amount of money raised comfortably surpassed Frost Fatales 2022's $132,000. An impressive win given the financial squeeze that many viewers around the world are currently feeling.
Speaking of which, the next Frost Fatales has been announced to take place from February 26 to March 4. And here's hoping it can raise even more dough as Games Done Quick continues its upward trend and additions to its incredible running total.
