$73,000! Intrepid Studios smashed Extra Life 2022 with a particularly successful 24-hour stream.
Feelgood Friday: Ashes of Creation Among the Top 10 Biggest Fundraisers for Extra Life 2022
Ashes of Creation absolutely smashed their Extra Life 2022 target this year, nearly tripling their stated goal of $25,000 after reaching $73,000 by the end of their campaign. It has been a good year for Intrepid Studios as the hype continues to build exponentially for their upcoming MMORPG. And the team was keen to spread that love to a particularly worthy cause over the weekend.
Extra Life is a fundraising program that helps to deliver life-saving treatments to children in Childrens’ Miracle Network Hospitals, as well as aid in innovative research and buying pediatric medical equipment and child life services. Every year, gamers and studios around the world band together on ‘Game Day’ (this year’s being November 5th) to raise as much money as possible through gaming fundraisers.
Intrepid have a long history of diving into Extra Life’s Game Day headfirst, and over the course of six years had managed to raise more than $170,000 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. A total that has skyrocketed to over $243,000 since the weekend, which saw them raise $73,000 for this year’s chosen hospital: Rady’s Children’s Hospital in San Diego, CA.
Intrepid Studios announced this year’s haul via a Twitter video, in which what we believe to be a cream-covered Steven Sharif, CEO and Creative Director on Ashes of Creation, thanked the enthusiastic AoC community while flanked by his notably more pristine colleagues.
Their success - which currently registers at $51,350 on the official Extra Life fundraiser page - has put them seventh in the Extra Life 2022 leaderboard - which is currently headed up by Magic: The Gathering’s whopping $771,945. Though accounting for what we assume to be donations made outside of the official channels, AoC would place an even more admirable fourth.
The team began their Extra Life 2022 fundraiser with an introductory stream on November 4th, followed by a 24-hour stream on November 5th. To raise the cash, Intrepid leveraged the hype surrounding AoC by locking Alpha Two giveaways and more information on the game behind a series of milestones, which were interspersed with challenges and games for the team to carry out. A series of challenges that seemingly culminated in dousing Sharif in cream before announcing the triumphant end to their efforts.
So huge kudos to Intrepid for another wildly successful Extra Life. Now go clean yourselves off and release this MMORPG already, we can barely wait any longer.
