The story of Baldur's Gate 3 is a long one, but the end is in sight.
Concrete Baldur's Gate 3 Release Details Revealed
It may not be as early as we want, but we have a confirmed release window for Baldur's Gate 3 courtesy of a humorous video from developer Larian Studios. And thanks to their prolonged early access run, the reveal came with a trip down memory lane featuring the epic journey of Baldur's Gate 3 so far.
The video was nestled in the 2022 D&D Direct and featured three main characters - a 'Tiefling', a 'doctor' and what appeared to be the unconscious body of Larian Studios Head and Baldur's Gate 3 Creative Director Swen Vincke. The lore behind Swen's unfortunate circumstances was kept a mystery - but the important part was revealed at the end.
"By the Nine Hells, we've added a lot of great stuff already, and there's more where that came from. So, join us in early access on our journey to Baldur's Gate 3 , or come along in 2023 when the game releases." Said the Tiefling whose brain parasite graciously treated us to the last 18 months of Baldur's Gate 3's development journey in trailer form.
The last 18 months has seen the game's reveal, the transformation of its visuals, the mechanics and regions implemented and a behind-the-scenes look at the work that has gone into Baldur's Gate 3 so far. And it did the job of reminding us how excited we are for its final release.
Whilst there was some hope of a late 2022 release (given that it already looks fantastic), Vincke had already suggested that this was unlikely in an interview with Eurogamer earlier this year. In it, he stated that the D&D RPG still had a full year's worth of development to get through - but there was a light at the end of the tunnel.
So now we must sit and wait a little longer as we anticipate a concrete Baldur's Gate 3 release date. But those that wish to take up Larian's offer and join the early access can do so by swinging by the Steam page.
