A Destiny 2 exploit has seen players using the text chat as a means to freeze their opponents’ games.
Destiny 2's Game-Breaking Copypasta Exploit Results in Text-Chat Removal
When demonstrating skill in a PvP match, deploying a game-breaking exploit to freeze your opponent and win the game by default seems pointless. After all, there's no sense of accomplishment from bringing a bug to a gunfight. However, that's precisely what some unsavoury characters have been doing with a Destiny 2 exploit that has temporarily rendered the in-game chat unusable.
Destiny 2 players have found themselves muting all forms of chat in the shooter MMO thanks to the unstoppable onslaught of trolls and their determination to ruin everyone's day. Because a particular Destiny 2 exploit has seen the in-game chat being wielded like a weapon itself, as unscrupulous PvPers have been whispering a copypasta to their opponents, resulting in their game freezing and the win-by-default being awarded to the cheater.
The copypasta in question takes advantage of Destiny 2's character limit, by taking a popular (and lengthy) copypasta and translating it from English to Chinese. As Chinese characters typically take up more memory, this results in an overload on the receiving end, which causes the game to crash.
The contents in question have obviously been stifled by the Destiny 2 community - but Bungie was quick to respond by disabling all forms of text chat until they can resolve the issue. As of time of writing, there has been no update by Bungie regarding when the text chat will reappear.
Destiny 2 is no stranger to fraudsters and crooks. A recent crackdown by the developer has seen them win $13.5 million in damages from Elite Boss Tech, an organization that made it their business to peddle Destiny 2 exploits and cheats. And they continue to treat cheating in the game 'very seriously' - though there's no word on whether the users of this particular bug will be facing any repercussions.
Should you find yourself on the receiving end of a charlatan's mischief, however, be sure to report them through the official means.
