Destiny 2 Vets Save Newbies from Dares of Eternity Activity
While Final Fantasy XIV is now famous for its congenial community, it’s heartening to know that the phenomenon of kindly gamers isn’t Eorzea-exclusive. While gamers sometimes get a bad rap as the most toxic among us grab headlines, there’s still no shortage of stories that demonstrate the good in our community. And Bungie’s Destiny 2 has provided the most recent example.
As part of its 30th Anniversary celebration, Bungie launched the new Dares of Eternity activity - a six-player mode that tasks participants with a series of challenges chosen at random by the Wheel of Adversity. It’s all fun and games. If you’re not a complete newbie, that is.
It is an oversight that has left new players out in the cold
However, this unavoidable challenge, with its Power level requirement of 1150 and inclusion of Champions, has become an impossible barrier for new players who begin at Power level 1100. It is an oversight that has left new players out in the cold. But Destiny 2 veterans have sprung into action.
In a community-led and Bungie-approved effort that has now been dubbed “Operation: Save the New Lights”, veteran players have been purposefully tanking their Power levels by donning low power gear and entering matchmaking. Their new low level then leads them to pair up with greenhorns, only for them to reequip their higher-level gear once in-game and lead the charge.
The issue, and its homebrewed fix, has even been acknowledged and propagated by Bungie on Twitter as they work on an official solution that will likely release this week. And to thank those involved with “Operation: Save the New Lights” they will also be dishing out an emblem to commemorate the occasion.
So for a shiny emblem - and the fuzzy feeling of knowing you helped - be sure to jump in to Dares of Eternity with some low-level gear before the official fix rolls out.
