Elden Ring is finally here. And it's every bit as amazing as we'd hoped for.
Elden Ring Release Week - What You Need to Know
The time has come. The long-awaited Elden Ring release is upon us, and no doubt workplaces the world over are wondering why they are so short-staffed. Unless they are the magnanimous Japanese game studio, Pocket Pair, however - who have enacted an 'Elden Holiday' for their employees over the weekend. Gotta love those wholesome indie studios.
But how is everybody's experience so far? Well for the lucky few that have managed to get their hands on it early, it's everything we hoped it would be, to put it simply.
Metacritic has it sat between a not-so-paltry score of 95 - 97 across PC and next-gen consoles so far, with critics lauding it as an 'all-time great', a 'dream come true' and 'an exceptional title'. Citing every facet of its content, from combat mechanics, expertly-crafted lore and a dumbfoundingly large open world that begs for completionist exploration, it's safe to say that this product may go some way to numbing the sting of distracting collaborator George R. R. Martin from finishing his damn Song of Ice and Fire saga.
One thing that is worth noting, however, is that its sumptuous vistas come at a bit of a cost. Imperfect framerates are being reported across next-gen consoles whilst PC players are suffering particularly irksome performance issues. Stuttering and a smattering of crashes are being reported. Though it seems far from unplayable at this point.
We imagine that the teething problems will soon be quashed, regardless. And with stars in the eyes of so many, we don't anticipate backlash a-la Cyberpunk 2077 just yet. For now, we'll enjoy soaking in the positive vibes of a bona fide classic's release day - as we should on a Feelgood Friday.
