As the sci-fi giant enters its second decade, discover what’s in store for EVE Online 2023.
Highlights from the EVE Online 2023 Roadmap
The EVE Online 2023 roadmap has landed, joining a cavalcade of other MMOs vying for the continued attention of their audiences. But after unveiling their 12-month roadmap via livestream, it's fair to say that EVE's future is looking particularly bright. Especially if you're a fan of Microsoft Excel.
There aren't many audiences who would find Excel integration as exciting as Capsuleers. But as any EVE Online vet is aware, calculating notoriously complex systems like profit margins and battle strategies without the tool is a fool's errand.
Which is why CCP's decision to let players import data from EVE's API into Excel is one of the headline features of the EVE Online 2023 roadmap, with the feature being afforded to players with an Omega subscription in May. Keener Capsuleers can try the feature out as early as this month with a closed beta at the end of January.
As exciting as it may be, however, Excel integration is far from being the biggest addition to EVE Online in 2023.
"2022 was huge for EVE, but 2023 is going to be monumental," said CCP Games' Creative Director, Bergur Finnbogason. "As we now enter this majestic third decade of EVE, our roadmap only scratches the surface of what we have in the works. We will continue to evolve the future of war with two expansions arriving later this year, bringing a wealth of new events, content, and features for players and our incredible community to look forward to."
Aside from annual highlights like Fanfest and Capsuleer Day, a whopping two expansions are also in the pipeline. CCP will be building on the compelling events of Uprising with two as-yet unnamed expansions which will deliver fresh storylines, features and events throughout 2023.
Additionally, Factional Warfare will continue to receive special attention starting imminently in Q1 with Direct Enlistment. This new feature will allow players to join Factional Warfare events without leaving corporations or alliance mates.
The launch of Uprising saw a swell in EVE's active playerbase, and it doesn't look like CCP intends to slow down in 2023. It will, after all, feature EVE's 20th anniversary celebrations - which is a testament to the game's continued relevance. And we can't wait to see what surprises they have in store.
