Prove your gaming prowess and follow in the footsteps of BlindWarriorSven in the #GamingforAllChallenge
Feelgood Friday: Could You Game Blind for Charity?
In a team up for the ages, Opera GX, TikTok, BlindWarriorSven, and AbleGamers have a very specific gaming TikTok challenge for you. If you have what it takes...
They challenge you and your friends to game blind for charity. The challenge is not only to raise awareness of the plight of blind and visually impaired gamers, but also to raise funds. For every upload on the platform, Opera GX will make a donation of $0.5 USD to the brilliant non-profit AbleGamers - an organization which attempts to improve quality of life for gamers with disabilities.
When I was six years old I lost my sight, but I never lost my passion for gaming.
At the bottom of this blog, you can watch a video of the mighty BlindWarriorSven - the inspiration for the challenge and the world's visually impaired Street Fighter champion. BlindWarriorSven, whose real name is Sven van de Wege, is a blind professional gamer who lost his vision to cancer when he was just 6 years old. He worked out that by listening closely to the sounds of Street Fighter that he could play the game by determining which moves were occurring. With determination and perseverance, he then learned that he could excel.
In the video, Sven throws down the mantle for gamers like you to overcome personal obstacles - just like he has. He challenges you to play a game of your choosing, without sight, and upload the footage to TikTok. To further amplify the challenge, which is now live, the eSports media platform the Score Esports hosted a live event where participants got to meet Sven in person and challenge him at Street Fighter V.
All this comes under the banner of the awesome #GamingforAll challenge which aims to spread the joy of gaming far and wide to those less abled. All that's left is for you to take up the challenge and prove you have what it takes. Will you defy your limitations?
