Whatever it is that HoYoverse are doing, they're doing it right. That's if the 2022 Twitter insights obtained by gamesindustry.biz are anything to go by, as they prove that Genshin Impact popularity hasn't dwindled, despite it being two years old. Or so it seems.
There's no doubt that Genshin Impact is a popular game, even if we don't have the Steam Charts to prove it. The fact that it is graced with updates that introduce genuinely fresh content on a regular basis is plenty to keep players engaged. And the 2022 gaming insights also tell us that Genshin Impact enjoyed the third-most lucrative year in mobile gaming. Gotta love those gacha mechanics.
But as is evident from the Twitter stats, Genshin Impact has been retweeted an inordinate amount of times - more than twice that of second-place Final Fantasy XIV. But what is the reason? Well as a few savvy Genshin fans pointed out on Reddit: it's probably the fan art.
Thanks to Genshin Impact's steady stream of colorful new characters, there's always a new muse for fan artists to draw from. As for the specific content that they decide to depict...well it's probably best not to dwell on that too much.
To be fair to HoYoverse, 2022 did see a record-breaking number of retweets after they announced the Wanderer (formerly known as Scaramouche) via Twitter. Something that pleased just about everybody, it seems.
Plus, there's a lot to be said for the steady stream of leaks that come before practically every update. Whether genuine or not, these leaks are wont to generate ample discussion ahead of the official release, and have become something of a mainstay when it comes to Genshin Impact discussions on Twitter.
Regardless, it's not too surprising to see this title topping the Twitter charts. HoYoverse has already hit the ground running in 2023, with the newest event, "Across the Wilderness" landing tomorrow. Within it, players must collect as many Wilderness Balloons as possible within a given time limit in order to earn rewards. After that, players can look forward to update 3.4, which will introduce two more characters.
