Mistlands is the first Valheim expansion, and it’s delivered a pretty steep difficulty curve.

The world's most creative Vikings have been taking a trip into the mists after a surprise drop of the latest Valheim expansion. And almost immediately high-tailing it back out thanks to a particularly steep difficulty curve.

The Mistlands is the highly anticipated expansion to the Viking-themed crafting simulator from Iron Gate Studio. It's been a while since Valheim's monumental release, and all fans have wanted over the past two years is some extra meat to sink their teeth into. Because the craftiest creators in Valheim have pretty much exhausted all ideas at this point.

The latest Valheim expansion is helping to redouble their efforts, however, with even more crafting materials to work with, including some fancy marble to be found in the latest and most expansive biome yet. The Mistlands are a mysterious locale that can only be unveiled in unexplored areas of a player's map - meaning the most intrepid explorers who have uncovered every inch of the world may need to restart their playthrough.

Those that have made their way into the mists, however, have been reporting some pretty significant challenges, thanks to the plethora of new fauna for players to take on. So dangerous are Valheim's newest creatures that some are even finding refuge within the once treacherous plains. "I never thought I'd say this, but I miss you deathsquitos and 2 star fullings," said one worn-down Viking.

But it's not just the monsters that players need to look out for. The biome itself, in particular its difficult terrain, is leaving Vikings feeling particularly tuckered out, with some complaining that the need to stop every minute to catch a breath is sucking the fun out of the exploration. Either way, it's certainly adding to the difficulty curve when players find themselves face-to-face with the latest beasties that Valheim has to offer with but a sliver of stamina to work with.

However, it is safe to say that the latest Valheim expansion, which also delivers a substantial fishing overhaul, new looks, magic, music, and mechanics (to name a few), has landed with a flourish so far. And we can't wait to see what wonderful creations the treacherous new biome will inspire.
