The Day Before Delayed by a Year - But for Good Reason
The Day Before has been delayed by quite a while. And as the most wishlisted game on Steam, we've no doubt it will rustle a few jimmies. Though we are keen to remind everyone what can happen when a game is rushed to completion just because a publisher announced a release date. Plus, there's a pretty good reason for the delay. So put away the pitchforks for now.
The Day Before is a highly anticipated open-world zombie survival MMO that sees post-apocalyptic survivors looting and shooting their way through a post-pandemic America. Though it doesn't reinvent the wheel, there's plenty of popular mechanics set to grace the gritty title, including home decoration and exploration for when you need a break from exploding zombie heads.
Why has The Day Before been delayed?
There's a number of reasons why The Day Before is the most wishlisted game on Steam. The incredibly apt setting of a post-pandemic America and the tried-and-tested zombie survival mechanics are a couple that spring to mind. But another stand-out factor of The Day Before is its glorious graphics - and it looks like developer Fntastic is doubling down on that hype by migrating to Unreal Engine 5.
We certainly don't blame them for their decision. After all, if they stuck to their original June release date, then they would have everyone drooling over how beautiful it looked for all of five minutes before the first few UE5-powered games snatched that limelight straight off them.
Fntastic and Mytona explained themselves in a statement released to IGN. The statement was as follows:
"Millions of people have added The Day Before to their wishlist, making The Day Before one of the most anticipated games in the world.
"Feeling and understanding the great responsibility that we face, with enormous gratitude in our hearts, we're pleased to announce that The Day Before is switching to the new Unreal Engine 5 technology! The transition to a more advanced and adapted open worlds engine, will make the gameplay of The Day Before even more fantastic."
"In this regard, we inform you that the new release date of the game will be March 1st, 2023."
To state the obvious, March 2023 is a long way away. However, good things come to those who wait, after all. And we're hopeful that the developer taking its time with the most wishlisted game on Steam can only produce something that was worth the wait.
