What a year it has been for video games. And we're not even a quarter of the way through. Horizon Forbidden West , Elden Ring and (my personal favourite) Pokémon Legends: Arceus (don't @ me) are just a few of the predictably gargantuan releases so far. But whether anyone could have anticipated the indomitable success of Lost Ark is another story.
Amazon Games and Smilegate RPG have just announced that the Diablo - like MMO has just exceeded 20 million global users. This comprises its already hefty and well-established playerbase in the South Korean region, along with more than 10 million Lost Ark players from North America, Europe, South America and Australia.
That so many Lost Ark players are continuing their personal odysseys for the titular Ark speaks volumes. But the reviews complement the hype. The aggregate scores on OpenCritic and Metacritic sit at 83 and 81 respectively, with critics praising the massive open world, detailed battle system and dazzling visuals. And lest we forget the time it ousted the all-consuming Dota 2 from its place in the all-time top-3 most concurrently-played games on Steam.

Needless to say, our own review had some pretty complimentary things to say. And with the promise of a particularly hefty March update set to reinvigorate the already over-invigorated enthusiasm of Lost Ark players, we don't see their numbers dropping any time soon.
