Move over Mistlands, Valheim 2023 will feature an infernal underworld known as the Ashlands.
“The Ashlands” and Crossplay Will Star in Valheim 2023
Iron Gate studios recently published a blog post revealing the Valheim 2023 itinerary. And it's safe to say that this year will be dominated by one project in particular: the development of the Ashlands.
Though the Valheim community is mostly preoccupied with uncovering the mysteries of the Mistlands, the biome that was released just one month ago, Iron Gate is wasting no time in creating the next one. And this time, secrecy is out of the question.
The current vision for the Ashlands is reminiscent of an infernal underworld, replete with undead denizens and volcanic activity. Though in stark contrast to the development of the Mistlands, Iron Gate is approaching Ashlands with a wide-open mind, and a transparent development process.
Development of the Ashlands is at its earliest stage, meaning concepts are open to being changed or even scrapped entirely as the year progresses. Whatever happens, the process will be a wholly different experience for the fans when compared to Mistlands. And we're excited to see the Ashlands grow.
But the new biome is far from the only part of the Valheim 2023 roadmap to get excited over. In fact, early 2023 will mark a huge turning point for Valheim as it arrives on Xbox, finally bridging the gap between console and PC with full crossplay functionality.
Other features in the pipeline include new difficulty settings and content in the form of "Hildr's Quest", which is set to introduce some flashy new hair and clothing options, as well as the eponymous Hildr, Valheim's latest NPC.
Finally, Iron Gate is redoubling their efforts when it comes to Valheim accessibility. 2023 will see greater accessibility options introduced to the game ensuring that the widest possible audience can join in on the Viking-themed fun. To help with these changes, players are being encouraged to email in with suggestions that would improve their experience of playing Valheim based on their particular needs.
