Star Trek Online officially wins the wittiest event title of the year. The clue’s in the name.
“The Emperor’s Will” - Terran Emperor Finally Unmasked in Star Trek Online Ascension
Despite being a controversial supporting character back in the day, Wesley Crusher certainly seems to be crushing it in the Star Trek Online universe. Because in a big reveal that very few saw coming, it looks like the mysterious and nefarious Terran Emperor of the Mirror Universe is none other than Wil Wheaton's much-maligned character from TNG. And we're sure we're not alone in thinking that this is a fantastic turn of events.
The last time Wil Wheaton reprised his role was as a Traveller in the Star Trek spinoff show, Star Trek: Picard. But his tenure as Wesley Crusher began a whopping 35 years ago, appearing as the son of Beverly and Jack Crusher in TNG. Little did they know at the time that their pride and joy would one day become Emperor Wesley, who aims to seek control of the powerful entity known as The Other. The Universe certainly does work in mysterious ways.
The Terran Emperor reveal has come as part of STO's latest update, Ascension, which also sees the return of a couple of other controversial alternative cast members. Mary Wiseman's Captain Tilly and Chase Masterson's Admiral Leeta will also make an appearance, alongside a bunch of new content. So, aside from Wil Wheaton in STO, the update includes:
A new Featured Episode entitled "Eye of the Storm" will see players go toe-to-toe with Emperor Wesley to put a stop to his cataclysmic plans with the help of Admiral Leeta.
A new Task Force Operation, "Storm Chasers" will send Captains to the main chamber of The Other, tasking groups of five with disrupting the Terran Emperor's connection to The Other before they reach Earth.
A new Reward in the shape of the T6 Terran Somerville ship will be available from now until October 13th for Captains who tackle the excellently-named event "The Emperor's Will".
An Elite Officer Upgrade System will allow players to purchase a token that can then be applied to any bridge officer to upgrade their abilities.\
Ascension is available to play on PC as of right now. As for console players, we guess you're going to have to act surprised when your turn comes around.
