World of Warcraft's Dragonflight expansion introduces the Dracthyr Evoker...and all we can say is wow!
WoW Wednesday: Dragonflight’s Dracthyr Race and Evoker Class Explained
Dragonflight, the new WoW expansion was officially revealed yesterday. And, as people had suspected (or to be more accurate: hoped), a new WoW race & class has swooped into the playing field. The Dracthyr race is one of, if not the, most unique race ever to be introduced in World of Warcraft. And there’s plenty of reasons for prospective Dracthyr mains to get fired-up.
Suffice to say, this ostentatious race is going to bring some significant implications.
One of the most obviously unique things about the Dracthyr is their appearance. Not just because they are bipedal rainbow-coloured dragons (though that’s probably going to be a main selling point for a particular subset of the internet), but also because of the unique customisation options open.
For one thing, players will be able to customize two different forms - their humanoid and draconic forms. And for another, two-toned hairstyles and colorful flourishes are part and parcel with this gaudy race.
Less freedom is afforded, however, in the classes a Dracthyr can choose. As the creations of Aspects, Dracthyrs are in possession of certain powers and physical features that other races aren’t privy to. Like wings, for example. The race is therefore locked to the new Evoker class, a class unique to the Dracthyr that harnesses their particular set of skills with both Ranged DPS (Devastation) and Healing (Preservation) specializations.
The Dracthyr is the first ranged class to be added to WoW, with all other expansions going hard on the melee. Not only that, but a brand new battle mechanic in the form of the Empower ability has been introduced. This will see Dracthyr players hold down a specific key to build the power of a spell in some way, such as focussing on multiple targets or increasing its potency.
Speaking of battlecraft, Dracthyrs will also demonstrate some unusual mobility in the heat of the moment thanks to their Soar ability. As the name suggests, this will elevate the casters as they go about wreaking havoc/dishing out heals while airborne.
Suffice to say, Dragonflight's ostentatious race is going to bring some significant implications. We suspect that the WoW team are going to have a lot on their plate over the next several months as they field questions from the community. Though we can’t wait to see how this new WoW race develops.
