Musical geniuses are creating covers of popular tunes with the Stardew Valley flute blocks.
Crafty Creations: Making Sweet Music with Stardew Valley Flute Blocks
It's not often that our Crafty Creation highlights feature multiple people instead of one creator. But there's a trend emerging in everyone's favorite farming sim, Stardew Valley, and it has reached a crescendo that can't be ignored.
Stardew Valley flute blocks are an item of furniture that emit a musical note when the player walks past them. These notes can be tuned to 24 different pitches, and along with drum blocks (which carry out the same purpose, but with percussion) can be organized to compose a little ditty of one's own design when walking past the arrangement. Or better still, a chiptune cover of a bonafide classic.
Needless to say, Stardew virtuosos have begun to take full advantage of these symphonic slabs and their tributes to some of the most recognisable compositions have garnered significant traction in the community.
Some of our favorites include Green Day's American Idiot, an incredible rendition of Megalovania from Undertale and this. Not content with simply pulling off these arrangements with aplomb, however, some composers such as peekitty have pulled out all the stops to even match the tempo of the original - as seen when their character downs a cup of coffee for a speed boost before racing through their musical gauntlet.
And you can rest assured that these creations are as difficult to put together as they look, with the Megalovania composer YaramyGD stating in a reply on Reddit that placing the flute blocks took five hours, whilst the planning process took another six. An impressive display of dedication that Stardew Valley-playing chiptune fans can all now enjoy.
Visual treats are a dime a dozen in Stardew Valley, with some standout feats gaining appropriate praise in the online community. But it's not often we find our ears blessed by these creative video games - so huge kudos to the musical prodigies that can put these kinds of things together.
