One indie developer has been creating an Elden Ring demake for the OG Gameboy.
Crafty Creations: The Elden Ring Demake We Didn’t Know We Needed
The macabre splendor of Elden Ring is the perfect manifestation of next-gen capabilities. But sadly, spendthrift and penniless gamers are left out in the cold, watching through livestream windows as we re-play Pokémon Blue on our OG gameboy for the 100th time. But now our prayers to the Demigods have been answered, as one Crafty Creator has begun work on a Gameboy Elden Ring demake to end all demakes.
Reddit user -shin- showcased the beginnings of their gargantuan project via the r/EldenRing Subreddit. And it's safe to say that the response was deservedly positive.
The minute-long video features the Chapel of Anticipation starting area rendered in distinctive GB pixel graphics reminiscent of the OG Pokémon or Legend of Zelda games. As -shin- meanders their way through the tutorial we're treated to the fantastic rolling animation as revised for the Gameboy, which has been the highlight for many a viewer so far.
The attack animation is also charmingly simplistic as -shin- "tries" and inevitably fails to defeat the tutorial boss, the Grafted Scion. Which, along with the rest of the striking imagery from Elden Ring , has been masterfully reimagined for Gameboy. And although not true to the original plot, we are also graced with the famous "You Died' screen in pixel form as work resumes on the next section of the game.
The creator has been using GB Studio 3.0 for their masterpiece and promises that the finished product will work on real hardware. They have already begun work on Limgrave which they hope to release by the end of May, at which point all those clamoring to give this Gameboy Elden Ring demake a spin will be able to get their hands on the first demo.
In the meantime, however, we'd strongly encourage showing -shin- your support by watching their development journey over on Twitch and YouTube.
