Elethor is a semi-idle browser MORPG which focuses on gripping content over graphics.
Indie Spotlight: Elethor is a Sci-Fi Tribute to MMO Games' Text-Based Roots
When they're not attempting something stylistic, indie MMOs are generally not known for their next-level graphics. There are a great range of 2D MMOs out there whose focus is on the quality of the content rather than the visual spectacle. And the latest Indie Spotlight recipient, Elethor, has taken that notion to the extreme by doing away with pesky graphics entirely.
As a text-based MORPG, Elethor harkens back to the genre's roots. It is the result of one developer's multi-year passion project, and has maintained an impressive player base for over a year.
As of time of writing, Elethor has just released its 28th patch which introduces brand new story content to the persistent browser based MMO. And with a 100% focus on content over graphics, we imagine there will be plenty more to come.
Elethor Key Features
Elethor may embody the text-based adventures of yesteryear, but instead of high fantasy, this particular saga takes place on an alien planet that is in the process of being colonized.
Expect classic mechanics, but with a sci-fi spin. Questing, battling, gathering and crafting are the orders of the day, taking MMO players on a familiar journey, but doing away with the grind that it typically entails through semi-idle mechanics.
Upon creating an account, players can get stuck into the action right away by farming creatures and mining materials that can later be used to craft better gear as they progress. However, rather than requiring the constant point-and-click grind to keep the materials flowing, Elethor will continue to farm and gather in the background as the player gets on with other things.
Materials can then be used in crafting or sold on the market, with players being afforded the chance to join guilds known as 'corps' to prop each other up. Quests will see players completing tasks in return for ample rewards, whilst dungeons will bestow epic loot to wield in battle or trade with others.
When Can We Play?
Elethor is available to play for free right now, and has a sign-up process that takes mere seconds to complete. An optional tutorial will walk players through the myriad text-based processes, but within a matter of minutes they'll be mining, farming and questing with the best of them.
