One of the reasons we love indie MMORPGs is for their tendency to innovate. And while we would have expected a AAA studio to have already jumped on the gimmick of a VR MMO, it looks as though the indie dev community has beaten them to the punch.
One such dev studio is Ramen VR, whose VR MMO, Zenith: The Last City, has been making waves in early access throughout 2022. And while there is still a lot of ground to cover on its ongoing development, the regular updates and positive reception from players have us feeling very hopeful about its future as it helps to forge a novel path for virtual reality MMOs.

While many tech companies scrabble over the ownership of the ephemeral 'metaverse', Zenith: The Last City - which has drawn many comparisons to popular anime franchise Sword Art Online - already has a big claim.
It's hard to think of something more immersive than donning the VR headset and jumping into a fantasy world rife with magic-laden combat, exploration and, of course, social features. Outside of the VR novelty, the freedom to explore within Zenith is one of its most appealing features, with fully climbable biomes and a vast open world.
Players can choose to wield magic or master the blade in action-packed combat situations, with the path of the Essence Mage or Blade Master each embodying the Holy Trinity of MMOs with Tank, DPS and Support subclasses.
Customary MMORPG features including raids, quests, guilds and dungeons are all present in Zenith, with an emphasis on meeting fellow players and taking on challenges together.
When Can We Play?

Zenith: The Last City is available in early access on Steam and PlayStation VR. Needless to say, the appropriate equipment is necessary to be able to play. And with it being in early access, we can expect further changes and improvements to come thick and fast until its final release.
